Just do it
The Water Resources Committee of ruling Nepali Congress has
finally been able to attribute the delay in preparing detailed project report for
Pancheshwar Multipurpose Project to the disagreement (between Nepal and India) over the
source of Mahakali river and the distribution of water (TKP, January 20). I appreciate
this conclusion reached by the water resources think tank of the ruling political party
better late than never.
Agreed source of
Mahakali River is fundamental not only for implementation of certain water project. It is
essential for fuller assertion of sovereign rights of the nation on its entire territory.
However, it is regrettable that the ruling partys water resource think tank limited
itself to the identification of the issue. The writing on the wall tell us that unless the
responsible political party starts just doing the things, merely identification of the
issue is extremely insufficient. The Water Resources Committee of the ruling party should
start research on the source of the Mahakali River. While doing so, it should establish
close functional linkage with all the institutions and individuals concerned.
