Govt asked to allocate budget for freedom  fighters

-By a Post Reporter

KATHMANDU, Jan 23 - President of the ruling Nepali Congress (NC) Girija Prasad Koirala today appealed the government to allocate some budget for the welfare of the freedom fighters.

Koirala said, “I appeal the government to look for the welfare of the members of the warriors who fought for  democracy and achieved it.”

Koirala is also the former commander of the Jan Mukti Sena (JMS), the organisation of pro-democratic freedom fighters who violently revolted against the autocratic Rana regime and de-rooted it on 1951 establishing democracy for the first time in the country.

He was addressing the function after releasing a book titled Jan Mukti Sena: An Unwritten History written by the member of Jan Mukti Sena Shyam Kumar Tamang, who is also a JMS member.

Spokesperson of NC Nar Hari Acharya remarked he was “profoundly agonized” that his party which is the mother party of JMS has done “nothing substantial” for its members. “Though late the party should now do something substantial for JMS members,” said Acharya.

Highlighting his book, Tamang said he was inspired by his fellow freedom fighters to write something about JMS as there are very few texts on JMS and its struggle. “Moreover, most of the books are incomplete or misleading to some extent,” said Tamang.

Historian Dr Tirtha Prasad Mishra  said, “The book can be a useful “source” for the students of history because it has been written by one of the history makers.” He said, “However, the book should be very  carefully referred as the writer has heavily depended on his memoirs rather than hard facts.”

The book was published by the Ekta Publication.
