KATHMANDU, Jan 29 - All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) today announced their decision to establish ANFA football academies in  all 5 regional venues under the Youth Development Committee from this year.

It was revealed at a press conference that a total of 100 young players of ages between 10-12 would be selected through open competition from 5 development regions every two years. Those young footballers would be provided with regular football training, lodging, fooding as well as academic schooling at the ANFA Youth Academy.

A training programme would be implemented for the preparation of separate age-group national teams, under-16 and under-19, for success at the Asian Youth Football Tournament.

The Nepalese U-16 team is placed in Group E alongside Turkemenistan, Uzbekistan and Maldives in the ninth Asian Youth Football tournament to be held in Kathmandu while the U-19 team will be taking part in the 32nd Asian Youth Under-19 tournament scheduled for November 10-20, 2000. Nepal is pooled along with Iraq, Bangladesh and Maldives in Group D of the competition.

Addressing the press, the ANFA president, Ganesh Thapa said the programme was launched, targeting to field a strong Nepalese football team in 2012. “This is definitely an optimistic project but we have made all the necessary assessment on this regard,” he said.

While fielding reporters’ questions, he said ANFA would be establishing a direct public participation to raise the necessary funds to run the project.
