ANFA
to launch football academies in all five regions

KATHMANDU,
Jan 29 - All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) today announced their
decision to establish ANFA football academies in all 5 regional
venues under the Youth Development Committee from this year.
It
was revealed at a press conference that a total of 100 young players
of ages between 10-12 would be selected through open competition from
5 development regions every two years. Those young footballers would
be provided with regular football training, lodging, fooding as well
as academic schooling at the ANFA Youth Academy.
A
training programme would be implemented for the preparation of
separate age-group national teams, under-16 and under-19, for success
at the Asian Youth Football Tournament.
The
Nepalese U-16 team is placed in Group E alongside Turkemenistan,
Uzbekistan and Maldives in the ninth Asian Youth Football tournament
to be held in Kathmandu while the U-19 team will be taking part in the
32nd Asian Youth Under-19 tournament scheduled for November 10-20,
2000. Nepal is pooled along with Iraq, Bangladesh and Maldives in
Group D of the competition.
Addressing
the press, the ANFA president, Ganesh Thapa said the programme was
launched, targeting to field a strong Nepalese football team in 2012.
“This is definitely an optimistic project but we have made all the
necessary assessment on this regard,” he said.
While
fielding reporters’ questions, he said ANFA would be establishing a
direct public participation to raise the necessary funds to run the
project.
The
secretary of YDC, Kumar Thapa said ANFA, accepting the fact that the
future of any country’s football must rely on its youth players, has
established the committee for the overall development of youth
football in Nepal.
According
to information provided by the Youth Development Project (YDC), there
will be district level coaching and competition for all
age-groups--under-10 through under-19 under the project.
The
selection for U-10, U-12 will be conducted among a total of 640
players from 40 districts of five regions, before finally slicing the
number down to 100 through final selection in Kathmandu. Among them,
the talented 40 players will be accomodated in U-14 after two years
and the U-10, U-12 group will be replenished with the new batch of 100
players. The programmes for other age-group too have been developed in
similar fashion.
Also
present on the occasion were the vice-presidents of ANFA, Mahesh
Bista, Tashi Ghale who is also the president of YDC, member of ANFA
and president of Women’s Football Committee, Gita Rana.
