Nepali, Adhikari, Lama march on

KATHMANDU, July 2 - Min Bahadur Nepali, Kumar Adhikari, Birendra Bhattarai and Umesh Lama all scored convincing win in their respective bouts Sunday to more through to the next round of the Crown Prince Birthday Cup Boxing tournament.

Nepali, representing the Tribhuvan Club looked in ominous touch against Ram Kumar Paswan in the 54kg class as he forced the referee to stop the contest in the second round of the bout. Paswan had virtually no answer to Nepali’s quick jabs and uppercuts unleashed at perfect timing with lightning footworks.

Tam Bahadur Darji too did not have to toil hard at the ring as he put out the challenge of Ganga Bahadur Thapamagar on RSC to progress through to the next stage of the 54kg class.

In other matches of 54kg class, Surendra Limbu of Sunsari, Manoj Chaudhary of Naxal Yuva Mandal, Tej Bahadur Thapamagar of Kamal Pokhari also won their bout on points against Dhana Bahadur Khati of Naxal Yuva Mandal, Raj Prakash Gurung of Kaski and Bir Bahadur Darai of Tribhuvan Club respectively.

Also to registered quick win was Kumar Adhikari of Naxal Yuva Mandal in the 57kg class. He also made a short work of his opposition, Ghana Shyam Oli on the basis of RSC (referee stop contest). In the same weight category, Birendra Bhattarai of Pancham Club outclassed Santosh Gurung of Rupandehi in the similar fashion as Gurung failed to carry on beyond second round. Umesh Lama of Tribhuvan Club also won his contest over Dip Kyal from Makwanpur on RSC basis.

Meanwhile Dipendra Maharjan, Arun Subba and Til Bahadur Gurung won their respective bout on points against Ashok Tamang, Santosh Rai and Ram Tamang.

In the 60kg category, Rajendra Shrestha of Meghdoot proved too much for Keshav Shrestha of Taplejung as Shrestha forced the referee to stop the contest before the bout entered the third round.

Ram Chandra Thapamagar, the SAF Games medallist did not have to entered the ring as his opponent Samar Jung Bahadur Chand failed to turn up.

Athletics

The one-day inter-school athletics competition, organised by Nepal Amateur Athletics Association concluded on Saturday.

A total of 113 athletes, both boys and girls representing 13 schools competed in 10 track and field events.

In the track events, the boys 1500m was won by Bijendra Aganja of Padma School in a time of 4:33:55. In the girl’s 800m, Sabitri Suwal of Vasu High School came first in a time of 2:40:83, while the boys 400m was won by Dev Sundar Prajapati of the same school in a time of 54:89. Likewise, he also won the 100m in 12:27. The girl’s 100m was won by Bina Karmacharya of Padma High School in 14:46.

In the field events, the girl’s long jump was won by Ganga Kumari Chaudary of Little Angels School at 4.12m. The boy’s long jump was won by Bimal Dev Panta of SOS at 5. 33m. Kavita Lama of Madan Smarak won the girl’s shotput with a throw of 8.2m and the boy’s was won by Hemant Gurung of Gyanodaya with a throw of 10.60m. Finally, the boy’s javelin was won by Upendra Shrestha of Gyanodaya with a throw of 27.9m.
