Dashrath weeps over 10-1 loss

By a Post Reporter

KATHMANDU, July 10- In what turned out to be a no contest at all, India’s national champion Manipur Football team hammered Nepal’s WFC, Blue 10-1 in the floodlit Dashrath Stadium here today. The win also put the only visiting team from India into the final of the Birthday Cup Women Football Championship.

So one sided was the nature of the match that within six minutes of the start of the match, the Manipuri side had gone 3-0 up. And on three other occasions they didn’t fire into the goal even after going past the helpless Nepali custodian. There were numerous other occasions throughout the match when the Manipur strikers, didn’t go beyond the D-area showing mercy on Nepalese girls.

At the end of the first half, the visiting side led 6-0. The opening goal was scored by S Rani Devi in the very first minute. This was followed by the double strike from Tababi. Leading 3-0 after six minutes, the girls from Manipur then looked like taking turns at the goal as three more goals were scored by L Cnaoba,O Bemben and N Geetarani Chanu.

In the second half, the Manipuri girls only scored four goals. But this time they also made sure that the mercy they were showing didn’t look so obvious as they ceased from going past the D-area. However, amidst all the massacre, Nepal did manage to pull back one consolation goal. The goal was scored by captain of the side Shalu Lama, the only player who looked like posing any challenge to the opposition.

Tababi scored twice in second half to complete her hat-trick and take her personal tally to four goals for the match. Two other goals came from the boot of Rani Chanu and O Bemben.

WFC, Red will play against WFC, Yellow in the second match tomorrow. The winner will play against the Manipuri team in the final on July 13.
