Pay attention to govt schools

This refers your news story titled "Massive fee hike in private institutions", dated July 8, 2000, TKP. It is true that due to the salary increase announced by the government for the fiscal year 2000-2001, the poor have been greatly affected because private institutions have also increased the admission and monthly fees. Now, the poor have no alternative but to withdraw their children from private institutions.

Parents are being compelled to send their children to government schools where education standard is going from bad to worse. A question can be raised as to why government schools cannot
impart good education to students. The deteriorating education system in government institutions or schools is due to the weakness of the education department of our government. This cannot be denied.

Now, the time has come for the government to do something about the plight of education in government schools. Good inspections and drastic actions need to be implemented strictly, else, poor people’s children will remain deprived of good education.
