NHM marks silver jubilee

By a Post Reporter

KATHMANDU, July 17 - Vice-Chanceller Dr Dayananda Bajracharya gave away awards to the staff of National History Museum (NHM) today on the occasion of its silver jubilee celebration.

The museum chief Dr Keshab Shrestha said NHM is constructing an environmental park here to conserve its original flora.

He expressed his desire to develop the museum area into a religious garden. "The whole Swayambhu complex should be developed into the Buddha Garden. If the people and the government believe us, we can do it," he said.

NHM lies in the premises of World Heritage List Swayambhu which possesses not only religious and cultural significance but is also a rich site of flora and fauna.

The museum, running under the shelter of Tribhuwan University now houses more than 55,000 specimens of plants, animals and paleontology gathered from nearly 60 disricts of Nepal.
