Playing dirty with Maoist problem

It did take a very long time for Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala to write a letter authorizing former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba who heads the high level Consensus Seeking Commission for Resolving Maoist Issues to conduct dialogue with Maoists. Even though it is a belated move, it is to be welcomed as a positive development. The government’s views on Maoist conditions for creating a minimum environment for talks however remains unclear. For the moment, Deuba is not asking any questions but he has stressed that Maoists also need to create a minimum environment. The ball is now in the Maoist court. It is to be hoped that they will sit at the table to resolve the problems and return the country to peace and normalcy.
