Delegation against job cuts

KATHMANDU, June 7 (PR)- A delegation of taekwondo coaches, led by chief taekwondo instructor, Dip Raj Gurung met with the State Minister for Education and Sports, Dilendra Prasad Badu Wednesday for a discussion over the goverment’s decision to discharge officials from the National Sports Council.

According to a press release issued today by Central Taekwondo Dojang, the delegation requested to look into the problems of entire National Sports Council officials, giving them permanent place while considering the achievement of the 8th SAF Games.

On the occasion, the delegation also notified that the country’s sports sector would face a big crisis if those coaches, on whom the government has invested so much over the years are removed from their services, the release further reads. The State Minister gave an assurance that the government would take appropriate measure for those officials.

Earlier, the delegation had met with the Member-Secretary of NSC, Binod Shankar Palikhe, requested for consideration on the problem. Jobs of hundreds of coaches and officials at the Council are under threat as the government hinted the concerned authorities to take necessary steps, including job cuts such that the budget could meet Council’s other priorities.
