Mayor alleged of   unlawful action

By a Post Reporter

BIRGUNJ, March 2 - The majority of board members of Birgunj Sub-Metropolitan City including the deputy mayor Wednesday submitted a written request to the mayor demanding that the board meeting be convened immediately to remove inconvenience of the city dwellers.

Fourteen members of the 24-member body have made the demand alleging that Mayor Bimal Srivastav had been acting illegally. They have alleged that he has deliberately obstructed the construction and development works of different wards by withholding the budget of different wards approved by the sixth City Council.

They have also alleged that the mayor had acted illegally by dismissing the committees and sub-committees as he did not have the right to do so.

They said  if the meeting is not convened without delay, the mayor will be responsible for the inconvenience caused to the people of the city.

The dispute between the mayor and the deputy mayor has been raging over the last three months after the mayor has lost majority support and it has adversely affected the activities of Birgunj Sub-Metropolitan City Office. Out of the total 114 city council members, the mayor is supported by 40 members and the deputy mayor by 74 members.
