MPC win WFC-Mangaladevi tournament
By a Post Reporter
KATHMANDU, March 8- Mahendra
Police Club (MPC) women football team erased any doubts of their dominance in Nepalese
women football scenario chalking out a 2-0 win over a fighting Kailali in the final of the
WFC-Mangaladevi women football tournament here today to lift the Winners Trophy and
a cheque of 50,000 rupees.
Losers Kailali lifted the
Runners Up Trophy and a cheque of 25,000 rupees.
Despite the two nil margin of
victory it was a hard earned victory for the police side as Kailali girls staged a great
fight throughout the match.
Kailali who had been defeated
0-1 in an earlier group encounter against Mahendra Police Club started the match slowly as
it was MPC who enjoyed dominance in the first fifteen minutes but not thenafter. Slowly
but surely, the Kailali girls surged back. However, they could not beat the well drilled
MPC defence who were slightly well built than themselves.
But it was MPC who got the all
important lead. The goal culminated in the 31st minute of the match, when MPC srtrikers
took advantage of a goal mouth melee. The ball rebounded off Kailali custodian and Sukra
Rai took full opportunity of the situation slamming the ball into the net to give her side
the 1-0 lead.
The 1-0 difference made the
match even more interesting as Kailali girls went all out for equaliser. But poor finishes
coupled with some bad luck kept them at bay. MPC custodian Lila Thapa also came up with
superb saves to keep the Kailali girls at bay. On the other hand the police girls, with
big names in their ranks, also launched their attacks relentlessly. The Kailali girls must
be praised for thwarting the MPC attack with calm composure.
However, Kailali girls clearly
enjoyed an upperhand in the later stages of first half.
In the second half, Kailali
tormented by MPC rough tackle started to build a tit for tat approach, which probably had
a negative impact on their play as their performance dwindled in the second half.
MPC finally scored their second
goal in the dying minutes of the match when Kiran Bajracharyas shot proved too good
for the Kailali custodian.
The Yellow card was flashed to
as many as six players today. Manu Subba, Sukra Rai and Inker Oli were the MPC culprits
while the fate fell upon Jit Maya Gurung, Mamata Gurung and Kalpana Shrestha on Kailali
half.
Meanwhile, MPCs Sukra Rai
and Pema Lama shared the highest goal award. The best custodian award went to MPCs
Lila Thapa. The best midfielder award went to Madhu Thapa of Kailali. The best player of
the tournament also went to Kailalis Chandra Bhandari.
The awards were given away by
Finance Minister Ram Sharan Mahat while the tournament was organised by Women Football
Committee in coordination with All Nepal Football Association.
