Prejudiced use of photo

We protest the article "Farewell to alms" in your esteemed newspaper of 19th February, 2000, written  by your Chief Reporter Akhilesh Upadhyaya for using the signboard of JICA Nepal Office and the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital’s ( TUTH) plaque.

We may have no disagreement on the argument put forward by your Chief Reporter on the necessity of assessing foreign aid, but we consider it to be a matter of concern of His Majesty’s Government of Nepal. Your intention in using TUTH plaque bearing Nepal- Japan flag and the signboard of this office to give the example of "Hospital buildings without doctors, is a prejudiced one.

You may be aware that prior to the Japanese aid to TUTH and Institute of Medicine (IOM), the pioneer in the filed of medical education, internally Nepal had no place to prepare and educate doctors, for which we feel very proud to extend such cooperation. You may also note our sincere cooperation and effort through curriculum improvement of the doctor’s course and also our efforts to make the best possible conditions in the hospital for better services to patients.

The use of the said photograph was a coincidence. - Ed
