Red Cross meet ends

KATHMANDU, March 17 - The five-day regional meeting of the Red Cross and the
Red Crescents concluded here today with a commitment of cooperation amongst the societies.
According to a press release issued by the Nepal Red Cross Society, the five
operational national societies - Nepal, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka
underlined their strategies as "capacity building, financial management, diaster
response, primary health care, blood and community development."
The release further adds the partner societies put high consideration on
issues of sustainability and the self-reliance of the South Asian societies.
The participating national societies were from - Sweden, Switzerland, Norway,
Britain, USA, Jordan, Afghanistan, Iran, Japan, China, Denmark and Germany.
Representatives from International Committee of the Red Cross and the International
Federation also participated at the five day meet.
In the last five days, the participants had been working on strategies
"to assist the most vulnerable in South Asia" here in a donors partnership
meeting at the South Asia region level of the Red Cross.
