Maintaining buffer stock of
wool stressed
By a Post Reporter
KATHMANDU, March 18 - With a view to curb the excessive rise in the price of
wool, carpet industrialists have stressed that the government should make necessary
arrangements for maintaining its buffer stock.
Considering the present shortage of yarn in the local market and the sharp
rise in price, entrepreneurs laid the emphasis for maintaining stock at an interaction
programme organized by Central Carpet Industries Association (CCIA).
Participants in the programme said that the sharp rise in price of yarn is
due to its excess demand over supply.
However, they hoped that the arrival of the raw material, which was stuck at
the Calcutta transit, would reduce the price tension considerably by diminishing the
demand-supply gap.
The discussion on the enhancing the role of Carpet and Wool Development
Committee (CWDC) for the development of the sector was held. In addition, they said that
issue of bills in the sale and purchase of wool would help in a healthy development of the
carpet industry in the long run.
Speaking on the occasion, President of CCIA, A G Sherpa said that the
problems existing in the carpet industry should be resolved through the joint initiation
of all involved.
Similarly, Executive Director of CWDC, Chandra Lal Joshi said that the
committee would conduct proper monitoring on the price of wool and take concrete steps,
with the assistance of the government, to ensure regular supply.
