Everest Club defeat Jyoti Salt

By a Post Reporter

DHANGADI, March 19 - A devastating bowling by Bishnu Pandey led Everest Club to a 77-run victory over Jyoti Salt Team in the final of the Ravi-Shashi Dhwoj memorial running shield cricket tournament here Sunday.

Pandey stuck to a perfect line and length throughout his spell to return with a haul of six wickets in the match.

Earlier, Everest Club, getting off to a flyer made 140 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in the allotted 25 overs after they won the toss and elected to bat first on the placid pitch of the Regional Police Centre grounds.

It was the joint team effort rather than any big contribution from the bat of any individual that they set the challenging target for Jyoti Salt Team. Prachanda was the topscorer with 19 runs while Bhupendra made quick fire 17 runs towards the close of their innings.

Chasing the 141-run target, they had no clue against fiery bowling attack from Everest bowlers, especially that of Bishnu Pandey. They soon surrendered meekly, scoring only 63 runs after facing just 13 overs.

After the final, Bishnu Pandey was declared man of the series. Likewise, Prachanda was named the best bowler of the tournament while the title for the batting department went to Anil Thapa Jyoti Salt Team.

The tournament has been organised every year since 1997 in the fond memory of cricket players Ravi Dhoj Joshi and Shashi Dhoj Joshi, the students of Everest Boarding School, who died drowning in the river at the time of match practice.
