NBA to organise boxing tournament

KATHMANDU, April 30 - Nepal Boxing Association (NBA) will be organising an open boxing tournament at Tripureshwor Covered Hall from May 17-21, it was stated in a NBA press release received here Sunday.

Around 100 boxers representing different parts of the country is expected to participate in the first boxing tournament, which is being held after the recent reformation of NBA.

Following the association’s meeting held today under the chairmanship of its president, Bishnu Gopal Shrestha, it has also been decided to form 11 different committees for the successful conduction of the tournament.

According to the press release, a finance collection committee formed under the main tournament organising committee constitutes of Shyam Bahadur Gurung as the coordinator, Raju Babu Shrestha, Uttam Man Ranjit, Uddav Shamsher Thapa (asst-coordinators) and Sanjeev Vaidya, Binod Pant, Dinesh Ghimire, Pushkar Dhoj Shahi, Om Maskey, Prachanda Sharma and Bijay Dangol as the members.

The technical committee, which will be headed by the association’s vice-president, Laxman Shamsher Thapa, includes Manju Jung Thapa, Suresh Singh Ale, Madan Gurung while the disciplinary committee has Sanendra Pandey as the coordinator and Ganesh Bhattarai as member.

Association’s secretary-general, Tirtha Ratna Mali, has been the coordinator for the selection committee with Laxman Shamsher Thapa, Manju Jung Thapa, Ganesh Bhattarai, Suresh Singh Ale, Madan Gurung, Pushkar Dhoj Shahi, Om Maskey, Prachanda Sharma, Vidya Marsani, Anup Lama and Bijay Dangol as its members.

The medical committee constitutes of Dr Ajay Rana and Dr Saroj Krishna Shrestha.

Similarly, finance, publicity, security, transportation and ceremony committees have also been established in preparation of the tournament.

Following the tournament, players will be selected for three teams-A,B,C. The exact number of players, who will be selected through the tournament is however, not known.
