NRT’s ten goals bury Bansbari, Three Star pull stunning 2-1 win

By a Post Reporter

KATHMANDU, May 13 - NRT recorded the highest victory in the Martyrs Memorial ‘A’ division league, pouring in ten unanswered goals against Bansbari Club here Saturday.

Kalyan Khadgi and Hari Thakuri shone in the NRT victory as both of them freely exploited the pourous Bansbari defence to complete the hat-trick in the match. In fact, both of them found the net four times in the match.

Bansbari somehow managed to hold the NRT attacks till for the good half of the opening session. But they experienced the worst nightmare that any promoted team would dread as they simply did not have wherewithal to match the thrustful moves that kept coming on waves.

Hari Thakuri had a realistic chance in the 24th minute to finish off the nice move after passing a Bansbari defender but Bansbari keeper, Surendra Gurung, turned him down with a nice save.

But less than two minutes later, Thakuri easily rounded him to find the net to open NRT account on Chandra Gurung’s corner. Even a scramble inside the penalty area could not prevent him from nodding the ball home after Prabin Pradhan missed on first occasion.

Bansbari disorganised midfield did not help their cause either and soon followed NRT goalrush, with three more goals coming in between 28th and 35th minutes.

Khadgi made it 2-0 after Thakuri, after making a brilliant run through left put him clear inside the penalty area for a simple push.

His second goal came off a superb solo effort, which started almost from middle of the pitch and he finished it cleanly rounding off the advancing keeper with a low shot for a 3-0 lead.

Khadgi, striking good combination with Thakuri had a close look at the goal but missed the target by a whisker in the 31st minute. But just as it seemed that was enough for the session, NRT extended their lead to 4-0.

Bansbari defender did managed to screen Thakuri but Khadgi made no mistake to insert his right footer past the helpless keeper for his hat-trick.

The scoreline would have suggest enough for others, but NRT had other ideas as there was rain of goals in the second session.

Bansbari, apart from a half chance created by Prajun Dahal on a corner and other one from Ajay KC on a freekick were totally limited to their own territory.

The Bansbari keeper was quick to react and tipped over a back volley from Khadgi less than a minute into the second session. But he was found wanting in the very next minute as NRT added one more through Prabin Pradhan to make it 5-0.

Within a blink of an eye, Hari Thakuri put them 6-0 up and went on to complete his hat-trick 18 minutes into the session with a clinical finishing after running half the pitch for a 7-0 lead.

Earlier, Khagdi netted his fourth in the match, scoring in the 59th minute while Thakuri equalled with his fellow striker in 82 minutes to extend the lead to 9-0.

In the dying seconds of the match, Robin Dangol, who came in for Amir Dangol was also among the goals as he also finished off his long individual run for NRT’s overwhelming 10-0 win.

The other match of the day between Three Star and Boys Sports Club remained lacklustre all until the last ten minutes that saw the former overcome a goal deficit to walk away with a 2-1 win.

While Boys Sports Club, except for countless saves from their keeper, Suraj Manandhar, were unimpressive throughout, Three Star badly missed the services of their skipper, Deepak Amatya, serving a match suspension for collecting two yellow cards.

Despite dominating the play, Three Star lacked in a much needed bite. Shyam Manandhar and Chet Narayan were disappointed, both missing several glorious chances in the opening session.

The second session did not bring up much excitement with either team failing to raise their performance and the match looked destined to scoreless end.

But Boys Sports, making most out of a counterattack in the 79th minute took a stunning lead over Three Star to change the face of the match.

It was a joy short-lived for Boys Sports, though. Three Star leveled the game at 1-1 when Ananta Thapa put in his right-footer straight into the net after collecting a pass from Shyam Manandhar.

And he had a helpful hand right next minute that led Three Star to a stunning 2-1 win. Deepak Limbu, who went close to scoring several times early in the match, made it count at last in the 85th minute with a tight right footer after Ananta Thapa chested down the ball to put him clear.

Sunday’s matches:

MC vs Sankata (2:00pm)

JYC vs Boys Union (4:00pm)
