Friends' Club beat RCT 2-1

By a Post Reporter

KATHMANDU, May 15- RCT’s hopes of finishing at the top of the Martyrs Memorial League received a major blow here today as they were defeated by a spirited Friends Club side.

Friends Club, for whom nothing seem to have gone right so far in the tournament did produce some enterprising football as they defeated RCT 2-1 in an enthralling match.

Friends Club started the match on a positive note while at the other end, strangely enough RCT looked a subdued side. However, an early goal by Friends Club, at the 14th minute, to be precise, just seemed to woke them up as RCT players, a goal down, finally started making their calls. The first goal was scored by Raj Kumar KC in a goalmouth milieu following a beautiful move from the left. A number of Friends Club players had a crack at the goal and KC finally succeeded to put it into the net.

Friends Club maintained the pressure and as a result in the 21st minute Sukra Man Tamang doubled the lead when he received a beautiful long pass from Raj Kumar KC. Raj Kumar from the left completely changed the flank and found a waiting Sukra Tamang unmarked. Tamang ran with the ball and then dodged a helpless keeper Ramesh Lama to finish the goal with clinical efficiency.

Down by two goals, RCT did their best to crawl back into the match but the Friends Club defence was giving the RCT strikers very little room. Playmaker Ramesh Gyawali who had a fantastic match the other day was looking helpless while Bal Gopal’s passes were being intercepted. It was only Aita Sing Tamang who had a reasonable first half. While, for Friends Club Sukra Tamang, Raj Kumar KC, Rabin Byanjankar were looking threatening every time they had the ball.

RCT finally got themselves into the scorebook when Narayan Manandhar reduced the deficit in the 66th minute. After this the match got even interesting but Friends Club managed to cling onto their lead to win the match.

Earlier, Naxal Yuwa Mandal defeated Kathmandu Club by an identical margin of 2-1.

Naxal owed the win to Sanjeev Manandhar who struck twice in the first half to give his side an unassailable 2-0 lead. He scored the first goal in the 14th minute and then again in the 30th minute of first half.

The lone goal for Kathmandu Club was scored by Kiran Lama in the 68th minute of the match.

Three Star will clash with Bansbari in tomorrow’s first match while NRT will take on Boys Sports Club in the day’s second match.
