Nepal win series 3-1

Post Report

KATHMANDU, Nov 10 - Nepal camp team today defeated the boys from Sardar Patel Institute of Sports, India by 5 wickets at Tribhuvan University ground, Kirtipur to win the series 3-1 played for Nepali teams preparation for the upcoming ACC trophy in UAE.

Electing to field after winning the toss, Nepal bowlers bowled well and didn't let the Indian boys take the initiative. The Indians could just manage 130 runs in 41.2 overs losing all their wickets. The visitors couldn't show the form they had earlier promised in their batting.

The chief scorer in the Indian batting line-up was Kalpesh Patadiwala with 68 runs. He was supported by Ajay Patadiwala (23) and Snehal Patil (26). Except for them Indian batting card looked gloomy. For Nepal, Jay Prakash Sarraf was the leading bowler with five wickets giving away just seven runs. Raju Khadka scalped two Indian wickets.

Chasing a not so difficult target, Nepal team made the Indian attack look pedestrian by scoring the required number of runs in just 17 overs. In the process, Nepal lost five wickets which may not be a good signal for their ACC campaign. Raju Khadka led the score-board with 38 runs while Jay Prakash scored unbeaten 21. Following them were Paras Lunia and Paresh Lohani with 17 and 16 respectively. For the Indians no one bowled well and looked in a hurry to get back home.

Speaking after the match, Nepal's foreign coach Haroon Rashid, a former Pakistan Test Cricketer, said that the series has given his boys a good chance to have match practice. He also said that a lot of improvement could be seen in boys' performance, especially batting.

Talking of Nepal's chances in the ACC trophy, he said, "Limited over matches are difficult to predict as any team can win on a given day we can't be sure of results. However, we can be sure of a good performance." It should be mentioned that Nepal is pooled together with Japan, Maldives and UAE.

When asked about the other teams, coach Rashid said that the home team (UAE) will obviously have an advantage of home crowd and known conditions. He further added that Maldives could be a competent side as they have been coached by Jalaluddin, a former Pakistan international and first bowler in One-Day Internationals to have taken a hat-trick.

Nepal leaves for UAE on Nov 12. Nepal's matches in the ACC trophy:
Nov 15 - Vs UAE
Nov 17 - Vs Japan
Nov 19 - Vs Maldives
