Correction

In the 10 November, 2000 issue of The Kathmandu Post I am quoted as having stated at the interaction programme on "Gender Equity and Justice" held on 9 November "that the literacy rate amongst women is just 5.4 percent as against 29 percent for males". Please note that the figures I quoted referred explicitly to the district of Humla which I had visited the previous day. As stated in our joint UN System Common Country Assessment the national figures are as follows:

Adult literacy rate for males 62.4 percent, and Adult literacy rate for females 27.6 percent
