Surya Nepal Eastern Open starts today in Dharan

KATHMANDU, Nov 16 - Surya Tobacco Company has been organizing Surya Golf in Nepal since 1993, helping to place Nepal on the golfing map of the world. Though at the beginning Surya Tobacco Company started this tournament in Kathmandu, it has kept its commitment to popularize Golf in Nepal as a whole. In its endeavour to increase the popularity of Golf in Nepal it has started Surya Nepal Western Open in Pokhara from the year 1999.

This year Surya Nepal Western Open was held at Himalayan Golf Club Pokhara on November 10 and 11.

In order to widen the popularity of Golf in Eastern Nepal, for the first time Surya Tobacco Company is organizing Surya Nepal Eastern Open this year and this is going to be the first official national tournament in the history of Dharan Country Club. The tournament will be held on November 17 & 18, 2000.

Dharan Country Club is situated in the premises of the B.P. Koirala Health and Science Academy, Dharan. The Dharan Country Club is a 18-hole Golf course just like any other international golf course. The tournament will be held for the amateurs and professionals. The total prize money for the tournament will be Rs. 50,000.

The tournament will give an opportunity for the local Golf aspirants to play with the professionals of the country. A total of 30 Nepalese professional golfers and 20 amateur golfers will be taking part in the 2-day tournament.

With the beginning of this tournament, the President of Dharan Golf Club Dilip Pradhan is confident that the club is going to be a perfect golf course for any other Golf tournament in Nepal.
