Carlsberg Open hots up

KATHMANDU, Nov 23(PR) - Nepal’s No 1 pair of Chandra Shahi and R Thapa bowed out of the 3rd Carlsberg Open Tennis tournament here today surrendering to the might of Karsoliya and K Shukla in the Men’s double. The Nepalese pair of Shahi and Thapa went down tamely losing the match 2-6, 3-6 in straight sets. The winning pair has advanced to the final.

They will now meet Nepal’s second seeded pair of Krishna Raj Ghale and Sanu Gurung who defeated the pair of Shree Ram Magar and B Hirachan. Ghale and Gurung won in three tough sets coming from behind after conceding the first set to win the match 5-7, 6-0 and 6-4. The final of the Men’s double will be played on Saturday.

The tournament organised jointly by All Nepal Lawn Tennis Association and Gorkha Brewery also witnessed various stages of Veterans Singles(above 40 yrs and above 50 yrs), Mixed Doubles, Junior Boys and Men’s Singles.

In the Veterans Singles(above 40 yrs), top seed Manoj Rana defeated Abdul Rehman 6-3, 6-2 to qualify for final. In the other semi-final in this catagory, Karma Gurung defeated Subarna Dhakwa to set up the title clash with Manoj.

Similarly, in the semi-final match of the Veterans Singles(above 50 yrs), Madhkar Rana defeated Laxman Rana in straight sets winning the match at 6-4, 6-0. Madhukar Rana will now play the final against C M Tuladhar. The pair of Chandra Shahi and E Nought also advanced to the finals of Mixed Doubles.
