Baba National Sports Club on the go

KATHMANDU, Oct 2- Baba National Sports Club (BNSC) established a few months ago with a clear cut motive of promoting sports to the best extent possible is already making its presence felt. After a successful performance in the Independence Cup football Championship at Gangtok where the team finished a creditable second, the team is now preparing to take part in another prestigious tournament--All India Governers Gold Cup football tournament in Gangtok. In fact the overall performance of the team was so pleasing that BNSC received automatic invitation to play in the prestigious tournament. The team leaves on 10th Oct for the championship that is scheduled to be held from 11th Oct -23rd Oct.

The intention of the club, by participating in such championship is to provide the budding footballers a platform from where they can establish their credentials as international players of repute, says Shyamal Pal, the General Secretary of the Club."The exposure of these players at regular intervals with quality international players in tournaments like the Gold Cup may enhance their chances of signing lucrative contracts with reputed teams," says Pal.

BNSC also has the credit of organising the first ever Inter School National Football tournament, the first leg of which held in Dharan has already concluded and the second leg to be played in Pokhara and the final round in Kathmandu will be held shortly.

Apart from promoting football, the BNSC aims at promoting disciplines such as swimming, taekwondo and handball. The BNSC, with versatile National Swimming Coach Ishwore Karki as the President of the club has provided sound support to the National and upcoming swimmers who are in their ranks viz. Nayana Shakya, Alice Shrestha, Rajaram Manandhar, Raju Maharjan, Bibidha Rimal, Prem Rana, Rajiv Chitrakar and some others. Some of these swimmers are already household names. These swimmers will also be provided opportunities to train in centrally heated swimming pool at the Indoor Talkotora Stadium in New Delhi.       

The taekwondo players of the club who are expertly trained by Dhirendra Shahi who is also an Executive Member of the club achieved astounding success at the Ist Inter School Taekwondo Champioship conducted by Baba Boarding High School last year. Jeetendra Lama, Ranjit Gurung and Dipendra Lama are exciting talents  for the future.

Similarly, BNSC has been chosen as the platform by Nepal Handball Association for the upliftment of handball in the country. Kamala Gurung, Tshering Sherpa, Monika Shrestha and Dahalmu Sherpa of BNSC represented Nepal in the Asian Junior Handball championship held at Dhaka, Bangladesh.

Some other members of the club include Mahesh Dhungana as the Vice President, FIFA referee Shree Ram Ranjitkar as the Assistant Secretary, Internationa Taekwondo Referee Amir Shrestha as the Executive Member and renowned sports medicine expert Manohar Lal Shrestha as physician.
