Maoists abduct NC activist

Post Report

DAILEKH, Oct 13 - A group of armed Maoist rebels on Thursday night abducted a senior Nepali Congress (NC) activist from his house in Narayan municipality-3.

Mani Ram Regmi, secretary of Nepali Congress Dailekh district committee, was abducted at about 11 p.m. last night by the armed rebels. He was on the eleventh day of his mother’s mourning period, family members said.

According to an eyewitness Mukund Acharya, Regmi was forcefully taken away from his home while he was still in his mourning dress by threatening him of life in case of resistance.

Maoists told Regmi’s family that they were taking him as they needed "some information from him" and would leave him as soon as their works were finished.

Regmi’s abduction came two days after Maoists abducted Tarun Dal district president Ratna Prasad Sharma. Tarun Dal is the youth wing of NC, the ruling party.
