HM visits Army training camp

PANCHKHAL, Aug 31 (RSS) - His Majesty the King visited the Royal Nepalese Army training camp at Panchkhal this morning.

His Majesty granted audience to officers of the 39th contingent of the Shri Bhairavnath Battalion assigned for keeping peace in Lebanon at the call of the United Nations.

On the occasion, His Majesty visited the quarter guard and witnessed military exercises.

Chief of the Army Staff General Prajwal Shamsher J. B. Rana highlighted the contribution of the Royal Nepalese Army in maintaining peace in the world.

Battalion Commander Lieutenant Colonel Yagya Bikram Rana and Lieutenant Colonel Victor Jung Rana presented a report on the training operation.

The Shri Bhairavnath Battalion which has the motto of "Tyag Nai Tripti Ho" or dedication is satisfaction was set up on Bhadra 12, 1867 BS as Bhairavnath company during the reign of His Majesty King Girvan Yuddha Bir Bikram Shah Dev.

Prime Minister and Defence Minister Girija Prasad Koirala was also present on the occasion.

A total of 897 jawans of the Royal Nepalese Army are now engaged in maintaining peace in eight countries of the world, while 38 battalions have successfully maintained peace since 1978 and enhanced Nepal's prestige in the international arena through its commitment to peace.

A total of 35,437 army personnels have already participated in peace keeping operations since the United Nations called for maintaining peace in 1958, while 36 of them lost their lives and 43 were injured.
