Maoists intensify activities

KATHMANDU, Aug 31 - Maoist insurgents continue to intensify their operations across the country with various looting activities and propaganda.

An assistant health worker Yuvaraj Poudel working at a dispensary of Agriculture and Animal Science Campus, Rampur was seriously injured here Monday by the attack of Maoist rebels, according to our Chitwan based reporter.

A group of eight masked rebels suddenly attacked Poudel in the evening when he was returning home in Shivanagar on his bike along. He was attacked near an irrigation canal that passes through Jayanagar village, the police said.

He is seriously hurt on his legs and hands as a result of beating by the unidentified attackers. According to police, they also sank his bike into the canal.

According to District Police Office,Taplejung, Maoist insurgents seized eight licensed guns from various Village Development Committees (VDCs) here on Tuesday. Meanwhile, a group of Maoist rebels looted Tuesday night Rs 20,000 and three tolas of gold from the two houses of Lade Bahadur Sunar and Gambhir Singh Gautam of Putalibazar Municipality-3, police said.

"The rebels warned us not to complain the police about the incidence," victims said. After they looted their homes, the insurgents fled crossing the Baukhola river. The police, however, claimed that they were simply the robbers.

Similarly, the Maoist insurgents warned the headmasters of Morang district not to take any fee in public schools, stating the government had declared free education up to high school level.

A press release signed by a Maoist CP Gajurel has also warned the headmasters of various public schools here not to let the students pray national anthem and not to teach Sanskrit in classes, police said.

"The rebels have also sent letters to eminent industrialists and businessmen asking financial assistance to their party," a businessman said requesting anonymity, "inside the letter include a piece of cloth and a bullet."

Reports from Parbat said Maoists have also started their activities in many VDCs of the district.
