Don’t misrepresent refugees
This is a protest letter for using Bhutanese refugees to resemble poor, unhealthy and
malnourished people in the latest episode of the popular NTV programme Tirimiri
Jhyain.Mohan Mishra, the supremo of the said programme has to keep in mind that Bhutanese
refugees are not economic refugee but are political refugees who in the process of raising
their voice for human rights and democracy in their country were forcefully expelled.
After a decade of being refugees they are confident of returning to their land with
dignity and honour. Many Bhutanese became refugees because they did not have the habit of
tolerating grave humiliations and embarrassment at the hands of other people.
This incident clearly shows that still some influential people in the Nepalese media are
ignorant and have no idea of how a national burning problem like this has been created and
are grossly misleading the Nepalese people with their ill-shaped concepts. He did not take
into consideration the sentiment of more than a lakh Bhutanese refugees viewing NTV in the
refugee camps. He has used them in a wrong way to popularise his programme.
Lastly, I would like Mohan Mishra to respond to my protest letter in a convincing manner.
He should apologise to the refugee community for humiliating them through mass media like
NTV.
