Maoists are making grave mistake: PM

By a Post Reporter

KATHMANDU, Sept 23 -  Referring to the ongoing Maoist insurgency, Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala gave a moral support to his party members  who are "apparently  the targets of the rebels."

"The Maoists are attempting to exterminate Nepali Congress (NC). But they are making a mistake," said Koirala.   "NC represents principles which may be replaced by other principles but not by the Maoists," he added.

Citing the record of Maoist violence, the Prime Minister said 90 percent of those killed by the rebels are NC members.

Speaking at a programme to pay homage to Late Hemraj Koirala, Bhojpur District Chairman of NC, he appealed to all  NC sympathizers to unite and fight against "reactionary forces."

"We should be well-equipped to confront the Maoists," he said.

Koirala expressed grief over the sudden demise of the district chairman of NC, and lauded his "relentless and commendable service" to NC.

"Our party needs many dedicated members like him. His death is a big loss not only to the party, but to the nation as well," Koirala said.
