Team for WC Qualifiers selected

KATHMANDU, April 1 - The recent controversy over the control of All Nepal
Football Association (ANFA) seemed towards heading an end with the selection of a single
football team by Nepal Sports Council (NSC) to represent the nation in the Asian Group 6
World Cup Qualifiers starting later this month.
According to the press release issued by NSC here today, it has selected a
23-member soccer team on its own to participate in the qualifiers, which will be played in
Kazhakistan and Iraq. A committee made up of members of NSC has selected the team which
will carry the countrys hopes in the forthcoming qualifying matches.
According to the press statement, the team comprises of new talents as well
as experience.
The team consist of following players:
Goalkeepers: Upendra Man Singh, Sanjiv Joshi and Ramesh Lama
Defenders : Rakesh Shrestha, Anil Subba, Sunil Tuladhar,
Narottam Gautam, Anil Adhikari, Narayan Manandhar and Dev Narayan Chaudhari.
Midfielders: Prakash Thapamagar, Ramesh Gyawali, Ananta
Thapa, Bal Gopal Maharjan, Kumar Thapa, Sukra Tamang and Dipak Lama.
Forwards: Hari Khadka, Basanta Thapa, Rajan Rayamajhi,
Nirajan Rayamajhi, Dilli Ram and Ramesh Budathoki.
Nepal has been placed in the Asian Group 6 of the World Cup qualifiers which
consist of Iraq, Kajaksthan and Macao as other participating teams. The first round of the
qualifiers will be played in Iraq and the Kajaksthan will be hosting the second round of
the tournament.
Initially Nepal was scheduled to hold the qualifying matches but FIFA decided
to change the venue to Iraq and Kazhakistan due to the controversy over the control of
ANFA. The controversy started as Ganesh Thapas term as the ANFA president ended and
Geeta Rana led Adhoc committee got hold of the ANFA office.
