Forest fire claims three

Post Report

DHADING, April 13 - At least three people, including a pregnant woman, were killed on Wednesday in a fire that spread the entire forest of the Jharlang VDC-1.

Those who succumbed to the fire have been identified as pregnant Moijong Tamang, 22, Suki Bahadur Tamang, 36, and Chandra Bahadur Tamang, according to VDC Chairman Dil Bahadur Tamang.

All of the ill-fated people had gone to the forest to collect fodder and firewood when they were trapped into the fire. VDC chairman Tamang suspected that the fire spread in the dry forest as someone left behind cigarette unextinguished.

Meanwhile, a report from Gulariya said that an ice-cream factory and other five houses were burned to a cinder when a fire spread at Chandanpur VDC-5 on Wednesday night.

Police said property worth Rs 600,000 has also been destroyed in the fire. A local eyewitness claimed that a group of unidentified people were seen running from the site of the incident as soon as the fire caught the houses.
