Bara enters next round of tournament topping the group

Post Report

KATHMANDU, 18 April- Bara beat Rupandehi by near margin of 18 runs and registered itself on the first position from group B in ongoing 17th Jai Trophy National Cricket Tournament here at University Ground Kirtipur.

After winning the toss, Rupandehi’s skipper invited their opponent to bat first in the wet, rain effected pitch and cloudy weather which cause Bara’s disastrous start. Pace-man Durga Sen 05-00-24-03 of Rupandehi, taking the advantage of wet pitch sent three of the Bara’s top order batsmen very cheaply. Since 22 overs were reduced from the allotted 50 overs, Bara only managed 123 runs with the loss of 7 wickets.

Entire Bara’s batting was dominated by Man of the Match Dipesh Shrestha who made not out thrilling 28 off just 26 balls including two huge sixes off inning’s last two balls of Anup Thapa which became the determiner of the match. Beside Dipesh, Sameer Thakur made 24 runs off 50 balls including one sixer and two boundaries. He was well supported by the all rounder Binod Das who contributed 19 runs with a six . Jitendra Yadav, the number seven batsman sustained the innings by hitting 16 runs off just 18 balls. Bowling department of Rupandehi looked vulnerable during the slogs, but left arm orthodox spinner Anil B. K. 06-00-18-02, and pace man Raj Kumar Majumdar 05-01-13-00 and not to forget Durga Sen looked impressive.

Chasing a descent looking target of 124 Rupandehi had a bad start after they lost the first wicket with naught on board. It was the vital partnership of 49 runs put by Shanker Rana 30 runs off 53 balls and Sanjiv Joshi’s 30 runs off 46 balls which placed Rupandehi on the driving seat. Things went wrong after Pawan and Sanjam of Bara broke the partnership which resulted in loss of middle order without much contribution. In the later part of the inning all rounder Durga Sen tried to upset Bara by collecting 20 runs off just 21 balls including one four before being bowled by Binod Das on the last ball of the inning.

All the bowlers introduced by Bara’s captain bowled superbly. Off-spinner Sanjam Regmi was among the top who finished with 06-00-18-04 and Pawan also claimed three wickets in his six overs conceding just 22 runs. Binod Das claimed two wickets whereas Rupesh Upreti grabbed just one. Rupandehi was 18 runs short, managing to score just 105 runs, to win the game. Bara being the top by winning all three matches from group B entered the next round of the tournament.
