St Xaviers snatch trophy KATHMANDU, April 20 (PR) - In a very sensational final match of St. Xavier inter school staff football tournament, golden goal and fifth hatrick of Om K Shrestha eased Xavier to lift the trophy, today. Little Angles registered its first goal scored by striker Martin within two minutes of the game and looked favorite before the equalizer of Om in 16 minutes. In half time Xavier cruised along 2-1 by the result of Oms next goal in 25th minutes. After half time LA came back with aggressive vigor which resulted in Rajendras beautiful goal to tally the score 2-2 in full 90 minutes game. Om, the most successful striker of the tournament offered the cup to his team as he held off the ball into the opponents net by a free kick to win the match in the 7th minutes of the sudden death time. Fr. Lawrence Maniyar, SJ, principal of St. Xavier distributed the trophy, medals and certificates to the winners and the participants amidst a closing ceremony. Madhukar Rana wins vetrans single Post Report KATHMANDU, April 20 - In the second day of the 2nd Kings Cup Tennis tournament held today, Naseer Shahid defeated Rameshwor Thapa 6-3, 6-4 in mens single leg. Sajiu beat Madur Sinya by 6-2, 6-1, Abhadul Rahman upset Yamades 6-2,6-2, Chamba Dhoudop finished Laxman Rana by 6-2, 6-1, in veterans +40 single category, Madhukar Rana out-powered Bikash Rana to win in a tough battle by 4-6,6-2 and 6-3. In veterans single + 50, Tenging Gurung and I Jaqi Dar got walk over to enter the next round of the tournament. In mens double category, B Schour/ R. Shresthas pair outplayed S. Gurung / B.M. Shrestha in a straight set of .6-2,6-3. Likewise, K. Sukla / K Karsolia beat K. Bhandari / Andru Hurt managed to win in a similar fashion by 6-3,6-4. S. Karki / Surya Bhusan defeated R. Shrestha / Yamades in a tough match with the score of 6-2,4-6 and 6-2.Chandra Shahi and S. R. Magar managed to defeat P. Gurung / Madhav in straight set scoring 6-3, 6-4. Post Report KATHMANDU, April 20 - Man of the Match Jaya Prakash Saraafs hatrick plus three more wickets 9.5-01-26-06 helped Parsa to win comprehensively against Chitwan in 17th Jay National cricket tournament held at University cricket Ground Kirtipur, today. Winning the toss and electing to bat first, Chitwan looked comfortable as they were cruising along hundred runs plus for the loss of just one wicket by the help of in-form batsman Kush Gurung who made splendid 67 off 74 balls, driving the ball eight times for boundary before being bowled by Rajiv who also trapped Gynendra Shrestha resulted middle order collapse of Chitwan. Rest of the batsmen were taken care by Parsas all-rounder Jaya Prakash Saraaf who for the first time in the tournament procured hatrick by removing the tail-enders of Chitwan. Rajiv Shrestha also bowled well finishing with 07-00-26-03. Despite the bright start, Chitwan lost their wickets in regular intervals and managed only 138 runs with 19 runs extra. Today, once again pace man Kush Gurung threatened the opponents in his first over by trapping Prakash Sharma whenthe score was 0 on the board, but none other than him bowled any overs worth mentioning. First down batsman Kimon Ojha played a superb knock by chipping in 41 runs off 62 balls. Parsa finished comprehensively on 32.4 overs by 7 wickets as allrounder Jaya Prakash and Kamaludin Ansari remained not out on 36 off 75 and 35 off 45 balls, respectively. In another match played at Engineering college cricket ground, Kathmandu, continuing its winning touch ridiculed Danusha by massive 195 runs. Electing to bat first, after winning the toss, Kathmandu put a gigantic target of 274 by the loss of 8 wickets. Sandeep Shrestha was the top scorer, contributing 74 runs off 103 balls including 8 boundaries. Monish Shrestha chipped in 44 off 64 deliveries while yesterday centurion Paresh Lohani maintained his form by hitting 35 off just 31 balls with the help of four boundaries. Rabindra Thapa, Birendra Shah and Prafulla Baidhya also collected useful runs to challenge their opponents with a huge target on the board. Bimal Bhattrai was the pick of bowlers claiming three wickets in his quota of 10 overs spending 62 runs. Besides Bimal, Dhiraj Thapa also send two of his opponents to the pavilion in his 10 overs giving 42 runs. None other bowlers from Dhanusha managed to prove their point in todays match. Chasing a massive target of 275 runs, Dhanusha faced a tough time facing tough bowling attack of seasoned Kathmandu bowlers. Almost none of the batsmen managed to expose their caliber to tackle Kathmandus attack of just four bowlers. The Kathmanduites bowled in tandem, looked far mature than other bowlers of group C. Rajesh Panta and Kiran Rana became pick of bowler claiming three wickets in their spells. Raju Basnet also managed to send two of his opponents to the pavilion in his four overs spending just 12 runs. The vicious bowling attack forced Dhanusa to pack up in 20th over with just 69 on board. Sandip Shrestha was declared man of the match for his match winning spell of 74 runs. Tomorrow, Kathmandu will take on Parsa in a determiner at Kirtipur while both loosing teams of todays match, Dhanusha and Chitwan will play for consolation at Engineering college ground. |
