Her Majesty inaugurates Floriculture Trade Fair

KATHMANDU, April 27- Her Majesty Queen Aishwarya inaugurated the first "International Floriculture Trade Fair- 2001" amid a function at the capital, today. The fair will continue till April 30 at Bhirkutimandap.

The Fair consists exhibitions of various types of roses, new floricultural technology, landscape, irrigation methods and hybrid seeds. The Fair will also providean opportunity for buying and selling flowers, flower plants and seeds.

On the occasion, President of Nepal Chamber of Commerce and Industries, Pradeep Kumar Shreshtha, said that the floricultural business was a promising enterprise for earning foreign exchange and in generating employment opportunities.

Speaking on the occasion, Anup Rai, President, FAN, said that this trade fair will provide a platform for growers, propagators and suppliers from Nepal and India to display varieties of flowers for mutual trade. The Fair will also put on exhibition the latest technology in this field.

"The experts and entrepreneurs in this field will exchange knowledge during the trade fair," Rai said, adding, "There is a need of adopting scientific methods to boost the floriculture business in Nepal."

Her Majesty the Queen gave away prizes to various established nurseries in Kathmandu, during the inauguration programme.

The Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the exhibition, Kishor Pradhan, informed that various participants are from the country and abroad, including 12 from Indian cities of Delhi, Bangalore, Poona and Gangtok, Sikkim.

The International Floricultural Trade Fair, in the company of 36 stalls, is expected to do a business of Rs 2 million around.
