Floods displace 20 houses

Post Report

MAHENDRANAGAR, Aug 3 - At least 20 families from Dekhat Bhuli VDC of the far-western district of Kanchanpur have been displaced while a number of others are about to be displaced due to the heavy floods in the Donda river triggered by incessant rains during this year’s monsoon, the District Development Committee here said Friday.

DDC chairman Rishi Raj Lumsali said that 16 families had already abandoned their houses for fear of further floods while a dozen others needed to be shifted to safer areas. He added that the river cut more than 50 bighas of land located close to the river banks.

Lumsali said that the displaced people had been allowed to stay in makeshift shelters in the open field near Dhakka. The flood victims said that they had not received any relief from the government side.
