Wake up Health Ministry

With the onset of monsoon, hundreds of people have died of preventable diseases like gastroenteritis and diarrhoea, especially in the Terai region. Such deaths have become an annual phenomenon. But our government is hardly doing anything to contain the epidemic.

For instance, in Kailali district several people have died, and the number of patients suffering from water-borne diseases is rising. As usual, the health centre is unable to cope with the inflow of patients, and there is an acute shortage of medicine and manpower. Due to inadequate medical supply, and negligence of health workers, the death toll could rise. If timely precautions and actions are not taken immediately, not just in Kailali, there could be further losses of lives. The Ministry of Health cannot turn a blind eye to this health hazard. Or has it forgotten its role and responsibility?
