Japan to donate fire-engines, ambulances

KATHMANDU, Aug 21 – The Embassy of Japan in Nepal has decided to present fire -fighting engines and ambulances to different Village Development Committees (VDCs) and municipalities of Sunsari, Morang and Kavrepalanchowk districts for the implementation of the Project for the Supply of Equipment for Fire-Fighting and Ambulance Service, according to a press release received here today.

The support, to be provided during Japan’s Fiscal Year 2001 under the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Projects (GGP) scheme of the Government of Japan, will be extended to the Fire Fighters’ Volunteer Association of Nepal (FAN).

Under the Project, Dharan and Itahari municipalities in Sunsari district will each be provided one ambulance and one fire-fighting engine. Likewise, Belbari VDC of Morang district and Panchkhal VDC of Kavrepalanchowk district will each be provided with one ambulance.

Mitsuaki Kojima, Ambassador of Japan to Nepal and Kewal Kumar Chapagain, the president of FAN here today signed an accord to this effect.

Meanwhile, the embassy has decided to extend grant assistance of more than 5 million rupees to the District Development Committee (DDC) of Kavrepalanchowk for the construction of Mangal Jan Bijaya High School at Mangaltar under the GGP scheme. A grant agreement to this effect was signed and exchanged here today between Japanese Ambassador to Nepal Mitsuaki Kojima and Krishna Prasad Sapkota, Chairman of Kavre DDC, according to the Japanese Embassy in Nepal.
