Gyan Niketan Basketball

KATHMANDU (PR)- Jagat Mandir High School, inspired by Roshin Limbu’s 35 points, defeated Occidental Public School 47-6 in a one-sided match played on the second day of Gyan Niketan Running Shield inter-school basketball tournament on Tuesday.

The other winner of today was Grammar Public School, who beat Neptune High School 49-9. Nirab Upadhyay of Grammar was the highest scorer of the match with 17 individual points.

Similarly, Wilson Academy defeated VS Niketan 89-44 in a highscoring match. Amit Tulachan of Wilson scored 27 points, the highest in the match. Likewise, in the other matches played today, Nirmal Secondary School beat Babylon School 65-27 while Don Bosco School and Suryodaya Boarding School won their respective matches against Princeton School and New Millennium High School.


First Royal Bowling tourney

KATHMANDU (PR) - Royal Bowling Center will organise the first Royal Bowling tournament from August 25, the bowling center said in its press release on Tuesday.

According to the statement, the week-long tournament will draw a total of 70 players from 5 bowling clubs of the valley. Every player will get a chance to play 12 games and the winner will be decided on the basis of total average points. The winner, the runner-up and the highest scorer of the week-long tournament will also receive cash prize apart from trophy and certificate. The press release also says that the bowling center will also organise a tournament to select Nepali participants for the 37th AMF bowling World Cup due to be held in Thailand coming November 4-10.


Gyanodaya defeat Dr Homes 2-0

KATHMANDU (PR) - Gyanodaya Balbatika School defeated Dr Grahams Homes School 2-0 in the second friendly football match played in Kalimpong on Tuesday, says a press release issued by the school.

In the match played under heavy rains, Kamal Sherchan of Gyanodaya gave his team an early lead scoring in 15th minute. Gyanendra Ale doubled the Gyanodaya lead in the 25th minute of the match to shut any chance of a Grahams’ comeback. Gyanodaya will take on SUMIS School on Wednesday. According to the press release, the scheduled basketball matches could not be played due to the heavy downpour.


Shahenshah tennis tournament

KATHMANDU (PR) - Krishna Rai and Karma Ghale advanced to the men’s doubles semifinals of the Shahenshah Inter-member tennis tournament Tuesday defeating Raju Rai and Tshering Gurung.

Rai and Ghale dropped the opening set at 2-6 but staged a brilliant comeback to take the remaining two at 6-3, 6-3.

Also to progress into the last four were Raju Rai and Thinley Lama in the Group B men’s singles. Rai defeated Tshering Gurung in three sets 4-6, 6-0, 6-4 while Lama put off the challenge of Sudarshan Nepali scoring a 6-1, 7-6. In the day’s other matches, Om Shrestha and Pema Wongdup beat Dhakpa Lama and Sudarshan Nepali by 6-4, 6-4
