Teaching children

This refers to news story titled "Schools closed by rebels to reopen" dated December 3, 2001, TKP.

It is good to read that more than 500 private schools closed down by the Maoists are set to reopen from the coming academic session which starts in April. These schools had been catering education to children until they were closed down by the Maoists last year. The government failed to provide them security and many children had to attend government-run schools. There was an incident that a group of Maoists raided a Sanskrit Vidhyalaya and forced the students to attend a nearby government school. The Maoists even dragged some children and beat them up, apparently to display their anger against learning Sanskrit language. This was a cruel incident any human being would not have done. Unfortunately, the Maoist terrorists did it, and now they are on the run. I think those, who terrorize children, should not be allowed to live in this peace loving country where Lord Buddha preached "love, affection and affinity among people as against hatred".

However, the Private and Boarding School Organisation (PABSON) must also realize that they should teach children and guide them as future leaders of this country and not extort money from parents. It is seen that the teachers make the students learn by heart the courses in the notebook and not make them understand it. Besides, many founding members of private schools do not know how to teach children well. They should be well-versed before they take up teaching profession.

If parents love to send their children to private schools, then private schools must learn what parents think because they too are part of the schools.
