Chivas Regal wins elephant polo

KATHMANDU (PR) - Chivas Regal of Scotland clinched the 20th World Elephant Polo Championship title following their sensational 5-4 win over America’s Tigresses team on Friday, the World Elephant Polo Association (WEPA) informed in its press release on Monday.

The Chivas Regal team, marshaled by Captain Peter Prentice, came from behind as Tigresses ladies got into the lead after just 30 seconds into the match. Although 1-0 down within the first minute, Regal team bounced back to clinch their first ever title. The local team led by Ram Pritt Yadav managed third place beating Ham Polo Club of England.

The Championship, organised by Tiger Tops Group, was held at the Meghauli Airport near the Royal Chitwan National Park.


Gyanodaya out of Subroto Cup

KATHMANDU (PR) - Gyanodaya School’s Subroto Mukherji Cup campaign ended following their 4-3 semi-final loss to Meghalaya in the tie-breakers on Sunday.

According to the information provided by the school, the match was decided on penalty shoot-outs after both the teams failed to score even as extra time was added following goalless regulation time.

Meanwhile, the school through a press release informed that Gyan Carnival will start from Dec 22, which will feature inter-school basketball and volleyball championships. Around 18 schools of the valley are expected to compete at the tournament.


Taekwon-do C’ship from Dec 26

KATHMANDU (PR) - Baba Boarding School will organise the third Tanka Bahadur Pradhan Memorial Taekwon-do National Championship from Dec 26, the organisers declared at a press conference held at the school’s premises on Monday.

Around 200 players representing 12 schools of Kathmandu and a school each from Eastern, Central, Western and Mid-Western Regions will compete at the three-day long tournament. A total of 12 events are included in the tournament featuring the weight categories of senior boys, senior girls, junior boys and junior girls categories.

The tournament has been named school’s founder late Tanka Bahadur Pradhan, informed the organisers.
