X-cultural marriage

The article titled "X-cultural marriage" (Sunday Post, December 16, TKP) was just ridiculous. Inter-cultural marriage or inter-caste marriage has been in practice for centuries. The only thing is that people did not write on this subject. As same-culture marriage, it needs mutual understanding, a bit of sacrifice, some learning and teaching from and to each other. This has been a rule of nature. These are equally important for other sorts of marriages. There is no guarantee that the marriages tied between men and women from the same culture, caste or geographic region will prosper if the above mentioned criteria are not fulfilled. Obviously, if both the bride and the groom agree to live for the whole life on certain level of understanding, everything is possible.

The author is only thinking about the Aryans and the Mongolians. Actually, there are hundreds of other types of "x-cultural" marriage in Nepal. Just think what would happen if a Newari girl, who celebrates one festival or another every week is married to a Bahun who has hardly half a dozen festivals in a whole year? But it is going on. Even in Newars there are dozens of sub-castes and they do manage.

The only thing is that both the male and the female should come from similar professional backgrounds. The priest’s son who marries a politician’s or customs officer’s daughter must suffer for the rest of life. That is why society prefers the same-caste marriage. It is explicit, Khaniya has just ventured an "x-cultural" marriage and is quite exciting.
