Misleading letter
This refers to the letter titled "Leave the
king alone" published on December 27, 2001, TKP letters column. The letter was a bit
misleading. Ishwor Gurung, should have known that C-in-C as understood by the common
public, is COAS (Chief of the Army Staff). The King is the supreme commander of the army.
In the third paragraph, he blew his own trumpet
about being a student at British Army Staff College, Camberly. This was totally
unnecessary.
In the fourth paragraph, he mentioned that
"the Maoists should be brought back to the negotiating table as quickly as possible
without precondition". He seems to have forgotten that the Maoists have been declared
"terrorists". Each and every household in Nepal should be asked: How many
weapons have the Maoists taken away from them and also of the police and the army? After
each and every weapon the Maoists have taken away has been fully accounted for can they be
given a chance to come to the negotiating table. Otherwise there is really no point in
doing so in the emergency and while the action being taken against them at present. Is
there?
