Last rites performed

JAJARKOT (PR) 5 - The last rites of two policemen killed in a Maoist land-mine explosion on the Kohalpur-Surkhet highway Saturday, were carried out in their home villages Sunday.

The bodies of constable duo, Kaushal Budha from Dasera VDC and Birendra Khadka from Shakla VDC were airlifted here and handed over to their respective relatives. Three policemen from the district have already been killed in previous incidents, since the outset of the "People’s War" five years ago.

Maoist rebels ambushed a group of officials, including the Chief Justice, Keshav Prasad Upadhyaya, in the jungle of chhaisathiya , where five policemen and the registrar at the Surkhet Appellate Court were killed.

Meanwhile, a report from Mahendranagar said that the last rites of constable Khagendra Magar, who was also killed in the same incident were performed at the banks of Jogbudha river Monday.

The body was brought at Sunder Nagar, his home village, in Dodhara VDC from Nepalgunj. A large number of local people, including member of Parliament, Ramesh Lekhak, government officials and police, were present at the last rites.
