Nepalgunj beats Panauti

POKHARA, Feb 7 (PR) - Bhakta Thapa’s golden goal helped Nepalgunj Municipality beat Panauti 2-1 in the group B match of the on-going Mayor Cup football tournament today being played at the Pokhara stadium.

The Wednesday’s match between Nepalgunj and Panauti gave pleasure to the hundreds of audience as both the teams ended up in a draw by 1-1 by the end of regular time.

19 minutes into the game, Rabindra Shrestha scored the first goal for Nepalgunj as his team led Panauti by one goal. In the 79th minute, Dipak Nyache scored an equaliser arousing uproar from the audience as match wore on.

The frenzied crowd stood perplexed as Bhakta Thapa of Nepalgunj struck his golden goal that decided the match much to the disappointment of Panauti team.

However, Panauti suffered through lack of striking ability as Dipendra Shahi squandered a crucial penalty shot. Nepalgunj’s Bhakta Thapa and Prasanta Karki were yellow-carded while three players of Nepalgunj were reported manhandled by the Panauti’s fans after the end of the match. The players who were on their way to the hotel were manhandled by the fans in spite of the presence of security personnels.
