Opposition
move undemocratic
Post Report
BIRATNAGAR, Feb 10 - Prime Minister
Girija Prasad Koirala, today termed the move of the opposition parties to oust him from
office citing his involvement in the Lauda Air deal as "undemocratic and
irresponsible."
All opposition parties, with an exception of
Nepal Sadbhavana Party, has demanded that PM Koirala step down from office citing his
involvement in the infamous Lauda Air deal and deteriorating law and order situation in
the country.
"The move of the opposition parties to
abrupt the on-going session of the parliament is very undemocratic. I dont think
that the opposition will not be so irresponsible," PM Koirala said, while speaking to
his party cadres here at his residence today.
PM Koirala further said that the recent
cabinet reshuffle was to stand the move of the opposition parties. "I want to involve
all my party colleagues," PM Koirala said.
He also said he was willing to let go one of
the two positions he is holding if "anyone guaranteed" that such a move will
solve the problems the nation is facing.
Referring to the refusal of rebel camp
members to take oath of office despite being appointed as Minister in the recent cabinet
reshuffle, PM Koirala also said that his colleagues were turning
"characterless."
"The character of my colleagues have
torn down...they have to improve their character to bring up Nepali Congress," said
PM Koirala.
PM Koirala, who has been under constant
pressure from the rebel camp within NC to hold either the prime ministerial berth or party
presidentship, expanded his cabinet last Thursday, in an attempt to include faces from the
rebel camp. However, two appointed ministers, Khum Bahadur Khadka and Dr. Ram Sharan
Mahat, refused to accept the offer.
Koirala today said Khadka had refused to take
oath of office despite his indications that he would do so earlier, but Dr. Mahats
absence was due to diarrhoea. He further confirmed that Dr. Mahat would take oath of
office on Monday.
"Mahat went to the toilet three times
when he came to my office after the oath taking ceremony was over...then I knew he was
really unwell," said Koirala, who is here to attend a function at the BP Memorial
Academy for Health and Science in Dharan tomorrow.
