Compassion without action
is lifeless
At this moment of grim experience in
neighbouring country, India, I would like to call upon all the like-minded social,
religious people-Hindu, Jain, Buddhist, Christians, Muslim- to unite to rise above
geographical prejudices to extent our helping hands to the suffering earthquake victims.
We know we too will go through the same experience as predicted by prophecy, whether
religious or scientific, tomorrow we would not like to see our neighbours fold their hands
while we suffer. We claim we are religious people, but what kind of religious people are
we, when we sit and watch our human brothers and sisters suffer in India? I will never
forget the day when Mother Teresa came from Calcutta to help the people in Bhaktapur when
there was an earthquake, though her entry was denied there as I was told. What a great
example that she came all the way to show her religion in action!
I know there are people and organization in
Nepal, who have sacred motive to help regardless of religion or nations, therefore I would
like to call upon them not to close their eyes toward the suffering in Gujrat. We cannot
do a lot but let us do what we can.
