Martyr Memorial Boxing concludes Post Report BHAKTAPUR, Feb 24 - Subarna Sapkota of Lalitpur knocked out Kedar Tui Tui of Bhaktapur to snatch gold in the 71 kg weight class in the final bout of the First Inter-City Martyr Memorial Boxing Championship. Santosh Koirala and Sunil Gurung of Butwal went home as bronze medallists. SAF gold medallist, Ram Chandra Thapa Magar of Lalitpur won the gold after Referee Stopped the Contest (RSC) terming Birendra Singh of Nepalgunj outclass in the 60 kg class. The braonze medalists of this weight category were Thaneswor Sapkota of Ratna Nagar and Rajan Awale of Bhaktapur. Rajan Dangol, silver medallist in the SAF games, snatched the gold from his opponent Subash Subedi after the Referee Stopped the Contest. Nav Raj K.C of Bharatpur and Suk Bahadur Thapa of Tulsipur took bronze. The bout between Dipesh Hada and Shyam Chaudhari in 91 kg, turned out to be the most sensational match to entertain the cheering crowd. But Thapa proved to be technically strong to snatch the gold from Chaudhari. Bhuban Singh K.C of Mahendra Nagar beat Mohamad Amaudin of Hetauda to claim the gold in the 45 kg weight catagory. The bronze went to Laxmi Prajapati of Bhaktapur and Bikash Malla of Bharatpur. Gyanendra Shah of Dang bagged gold defeating Sudarshan Budathoki of Thimi in the 48 kg weight category. Bal Bahadur Khatri of Birendra Nagar and Krishna Tamakhu of Bhaktapur were awarded bronze in this weight catagory. In the 51 kg weight category, Ramesh Shrestha of Kathmandu defeated Shiva Krishna Karmacharya of Bhaktapur in the finals of the tournament. Anil Prasad Baniya of Hetauda and Krishna Nepali of Birgunj got bronze. Tej Bahadur Thapa Magar of Kathmandu grabbed the gold medal defeating Punya Ram Rajlawat of Bhaktapur in the 54 kg weight category. Binod Kunwar of Lalitpur and Chandra Bahadur Rana of Butwal had to be satisfied with bronze medals. In the 57 kg bout, Tulsi Ram Deshemaru of Bhaktapur took the gold defeating his opponent Tirtha Maharjan of Lalitpur. Bhupendra Bakhunche of Bhaktapur and Ganga Bahadur Thapa of Butwal were awarded bronze medals. Kumar Adhikari of Kathmandu defeated his opponent Rajendra Shrestha of Bhaktapur to win the gold medal in the 63.5 kg weight class. Sushil Ghimire of Hetuada and Rajendra Nagarkoti of Lalitpur were the bronze medallists. In the 67 kg weight category, Ram Krishna Prajapati of Bhaktapur grabbed gold defeating his opponent Arjun Tamang of Kirtipur. Ram Baniya of Birgunj and Rajesh Shrestha of Lalitpur got the bronze. Laboratory, Xaviers enter semis Post Report KATHMANDU, Feb 24 - Defending Champions Laboratory School and host St Xaviers School won both of their league matches today to lead their respective pools in the Invitational Super 8s Inter-School cricket tournament being played at the St Xaviers ground. Both the teams enter the semi-finals along with Future Stars School and South Point School who were runnrs-up in pool A and pool B respectively. Laboratory team defeated Angels Heart School in their first match. Angels Heart, a weak side compared to the Lab team, put up a fine performance scoring 63 runs after put in to bat. The hero for the Angels team was Vesh Raj who scored 20 runs for his team. Lab boys lived upto the expectations of past winners they chased the target in just 4 overs. Gyanodaya who were the second team who faced the Laboratory music today. Batting first after put in, Lab boys made a huge total of 72 runs. Raj Shrestha was the major force behind the mammoth total as he scored 21 unbeaten runs off 11 balls. Gyanodayans, also one of the favorites for the title this year, could not get the momentum going in their favour after losing the first wicket early. They could only manage 52 runs, losing the match by 20 runs. In another match played today, St Xaviers School defeated Future Stars by 14 runs. Batting first, Xavierians scored 63 runs with the help of Posan Limbus 20 runs. Chasing the target, Future Stars had a bad start as they lost three wickets in the first over. After that it was only a formality and Future Star batsmen made matters worse by losing all their wickets in the stipulated overs. In their next match St Xaviers beat Shuvatara School by 10 runs. The high point of the match was the last over of St Xaviers innings in which they scored as many as 22 runs. Shuvatara, who seemed on course to achieve the target of 64 runs were restricted by some fine bowling by the Xavier boys in later stages of the match. In the other two matches played today, Future Star defeated Brihaspati by 13 runs, entering the semi-final stage. Scoring 74 runs after put in to bat by Brihaspati, the Futute Star boys restricted their opponents, also a strong line-up, in 61 runs. South Point was the other semi-finalist entrant today, defeating Angel Hearts School by 7 wickets. Chasing 56 runs to win the match, South Point boys batted themselves home easily in 5 overs. Post Report KATHMANDU, Feb 24 - Hrideshwar K. Singh today scored 36 points to win Yak and Yeti Annual Golf tournament in a single day championship played at Royal Nepal Golf Club at Tilganga of the capital. Paresh Lama was the runner-up with identical 36 points as Hrideshwar Singh was declared winner in countback. Chuda Bahadur Bhandari grabbed the award for the best gross at 34 points. Eu Hazur Thapa was the ladies winner in the tournament with 34 points to her credit. Abhishek Amatya, the young prodigy, won the junior title of thechampionship played under Stableford 7/8 handicap. He scored 24 points whereas Deep B. Basnet won the prize for the longest drive while teeing off in the hole no.13. The award for the drive nearest to the pin in hole no 17 was taken by Rabindra P. Dhakal while Binay Raj Pandey was adjudged the most elegant player. A total of 58 players participated in this years edition of the tournament which has been orgnised every year since 1988. Last year, Mahesh Acharya was the winner of the tournament. The trophies were presented to the winners by General Manager of Hotel Yak & Yeti, Craig Newton. |
