Stop rearresting

This refers to news story entitled "Luitel’s rearrest condemned" (February, 23, 2001, TKP). I would like to make a few comments on this news report.

It was shocking to know that Gajendra Luitel of Mrigauliya VDC-2 has been rearrested by the police. He was accused of alleged charges of hurling a bomb at a police van, one and half years ago, according to the news report. For his so called ‘crime against the state’ has already been tried in the court and, subsequently, released according to the law of court. So there was no reason for his rearrest. The police have no legal right to rearrest any person who has already been extricated or released by the court, until the court orders to do so. Therefore, the police have committed a blunder, arresting Luitel for his past crime. His arrest should be condemned by all communities because it should be treated as a gross violation of the court’s acquittal and the fundamental human rights of the citizen. A person should not be punished twice for the same crime.

So it is time for the concerned authority to come forward and investigate into the matter so that we can stop police atrocities against innocent people in future.
