BIRATNAGAR, Jan 1 - Purbanchal Cricket Club (PCC), Biratnagar, defeated Swagatam Cricket Club (SCC) by 47 runs in the Morang district ‘B’ division cricket tournament organized by Golchha Chowk Cricket Club.

PCC scored 158 runs at the expense of eight wickets in the allotted 30 overs after winning the toss and electing to bat. The score of 150plus was largely possible because of solid 49 runs from Sanjeev Shrestha. Sanjeev was supported by Suvas Yadav’s unbeaten 25 runs and Niraj Basnet’s cameo of 16. For the SCC team, Ram Sharan and S Khan took two wickets each.

Chasing 159 runs for victory, the SCC team was shut out in 24 overs for a total of 111 runs. Faiyyaz Khan was the highest scorer of the innings at 27. S Khan showed his allround skills scoring 21 runs for his team after he had added two victims in his account. Javed Akhtar was another batsman who reached double figures at 11 runs. Sanjeev Shrestha was adjudged man of the match for his score of 49 runs.

In another match played today, Star Cricket Club defeated Kali Cricket Club by 7 wickets. Batting first after winning the toss Kali Cricket Club scored 113 runs losing all their wickets in 24 overs. Star Cricket Club reached the target in 22 overs losing only three wickets.

Dipendu Yadav of Star ricket Club was adjudged man of the match for his bowling performance in which he took three wickets giving away 11 runs.


Sports activities in remote village

BHADRAPUR, Jan 1- Bhrikuti, a village in Bahundangi VDC is one of the remotest villages in North-Eastern part of Jhapa, organized a two-day Mechi district level Karate and Kick boxing championship that concluded here.

A total of 80 contestants-both men and women took part in ten events.

Yuba Raj Rai, Mohan Khati, Sankhar Mechey and Damber Mangar of Jhapa secured the first, second and the third place in the men’s 45kg weight category.

Ram Sampang of Panchthar and Tyson Dhimal of Jhapa secured first and second position while Dinesh Kalikote of Bahundangi and Milan shared the third position respectively in the 50 weight category.

Bijaya Rajbansi, Kishan Rai, Yam Subba and Binod Dhimal secured their ranks in the 55kg weight category.

Ramesh Rizal and Krishna Subba secured the first and the second rank in the open weight category while Khem Ghali and Khadananda Dhimal ranked the third place.

Yuba Raj Rai, Ashik Mangar and Dhan Bahadur Karki were ranked first, second and third in kickboxing in the men’s 45kg weight category while Ram Sampang, Santosh Shrestha, Tulashi Upreti and Nabin Dahal were ranked first, second and third respectively in the 50kg category.

Puja Lama, Mina Katuwal and Tika Lakandri were ranked first, second and third in the women’s 40kg weight category.

Renuka Rai, Helen Shrestha secured first and second position while Bhabina Rajbansi and Chandra Kumari Tamang shared the third rank in the women’s 50kg. Ganga Adhikari, Bijaya Rai and Bishnu Tamang emerged first, second and third in the open category.

Binita Dhimal, Chandra Kumari Tamang and Bimala Mainali were ranked first, second and third in the women’s kick boxing of the 45kg weight catagory while Man Kumari Tamang, Helen Shrestha and Bhabina Rajbansi secured the first three positions in the 50kg category.

Ramesh Rizal, Dipak Siwakoti and Rajendra Tamang secured the first, second and third position in the men’s kata while Binita Dhimal, Meena Katuwal and Puja Lama secured the first, second and third position in the women’s kata.
