Pokhara tense over driver’s murder

POKHARA, Jan 3 - The Pokhara Sub-Metropolis remained tense on Wednesday over the murder of a taxi driver, report received here said.

Dead body of Nara Bahadur Tamang, 25, a resident of Dhorphidi Village Development Committee-9 in Tanahu, was found laying at the Prithvi Chowk Monday.

The first information report revealed that he was beaten severely to death.

Taxi drivers alleged that some youths of the local Tibetan refugee camp were responsible for killing the driver. Tamang’s colleagues built obstacles in the streets demanding immediate arrest and maximum legal action against the culprits.

Police had to use force to clear the streets for the resumption of traffic. However, taxi service in the city remained impaired throughout the day. Tamang’s body was cremated at Ramghat on the bank the Seti River. The riot-police were kept on high alert to avert any untoward violence.

Superintendent of Police Man Bahadur Rawal said that five Tibetan youths and some Tamang’s friends were taken into custody for inquiry.

Meanwhile, a joint press statement issued by the district level group of nine Left parties stated that the murder of a taxi driver in the downtown proved the poor security arrangement in the city.

Other social and professional organisations have also condemned Tamang’s murder and demanded stern action against the persons responsible for the incident.
