Pokhara tense
over drivers murder
Post Report
POKHARA, Jan 3 - The
Pokhara Sub-Metropolis remained tense on Wednesday over the murder of a taxi driver,
report received here said.
Dead body of Nara Bahadur
Tamang, 25, a resident of Dhorphidi Village Development Committee-9 in Tanahu, was found
laying at the Prithvi Chowk Monday.
The first information report
revealed that he was beaten severely to death.
Taxi drivers alleged that
some youths of the local Tibetan refugee camp were responsible for killing the driver.
Tamangs colleagues built obstacles in the streets demanding immediate arrest and
maximum legal action against the culprits.
Police had to use force to
clear the streets for the resumption of traffic. However, taxi service in the city
remained impaired throughout the day. Tamangs body was cremated at Ramghat on the
bank the Seti River. The riot-police were kept on high alert to avert any untoward
violence.
Superintendent of Police Man
Bahadur Rawal said that five Tibetan youths and some Tamangs friends were taken into
custody for inquiry.
Meanwhile, a joint press
statement issued by the district level group of nine Left parties stated that the murder
of a taxi driver in the downtown proved the poor security arrangement in the city.
Other social and professional
organisations have also condemned Tamangs murder and demanded stern action against
the persons responsible for the incident.
