Galaxian Club, Kathmandu Club advance

KATHMANDU, Jan 3- The Birthday Cup football tournament oragnized by All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) resumed today amid bright sunny afternoon after a two-day bandh.

Galaxian Club crushed Western region team 6-0 today in the first match.

Galaxian Club took an early lead through Kamal Basnet ‘s goal two minutes into the game while Sunder Nepal struck another goal in the 10th minute from a close range to dominate the game right from the word go.

Kamal Basnet struck his second goal in the 21st minute to make it 3-0 while Galaxian ace striker, Rishi Rai scored hat trick in a succession to make the total score 6-0 before the end of the first half.

The western team failed to counter the Galaxian who overwhelmed the Western team with their easy pushover commanding superb sides and excellent attack throughout the game.

Ganesh Thapa of Western team missed a chance in the 16th minute of the first half, when his shot from a few yards failed to translate into goal. Similarly, Vishan Auchan also missed a crucial shot when his shot hit the keeper straight instead of hiting the net.

In the second match of the day, Kathmandu Club beat Eastern Region team 3-1. Nima Lama of Kathmandu Club pulled off a surprise scoring the first goal in the fifth minute followed by another goal in the 17th minute as they dominated the match from the start.

Nabin Maharjan of Kathmandu Club added one goal in the last minute of the first half to make the total score 3-0.

In the second half, East Regional team started off strong with a number of attempts and increased attacks. In what looked like a bad day for East Regional team, Rabin Raj Thapa missed a shot minutes after the second half when he mistimed a shot from the box line.

Sixty Seven minutes into the game, Rabin Raj Thapa of East Regional team blasted the ball into the net from a dozen meters out after his team-mate passed him a long yarder off the box. The game that looked one sided then picked up much speed and gave a watching pleasure to an estimated thousand cheering spectators and fans.

Tribhuwan Club will clash with NRT while Jawalakhel Youth Club will meet Sankata Boys Sports Club on Thursday.
